
Transforming Gujarat: ₹605.48 Crore Boost for Roads, Water, and City Beautification
Gujarat’s urban landscape is set for a significant transformation as Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has allocated ₹605.48 crore for various urban development projects across the state. This funding, approved in a single day under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana (SJMSVY), will address crucial infrastructure needs, including stormwater drainage, water supply, road construction, lake beautification, and railway overbridges.
This strategic allocation underscores the state government’s commitment to providing essential physical infrastructure—such as water, electricity, sewerage, and roads—while ensuring sustainable urban growth. With additional funding for smart libraries, gardens, and beautification projects, this initiative is expected to enhance the quality of life for residents and support economic growth.
Key Urban Development Initiatives
The approved funds have been distributed among several municipalities and urban development authorities, impacting cities and towns across Gujarat. Below are some of the major initiatives under this urban development plan:
1. Railway Overbridges for Better Traffic Flow
- A total of ₹88.88 crore has been allocated for railway overbridges in Dwarka and Dhrangadhra municipalities.
- ₹49.87 crore has been approved for Dwarka, while ₹39.01 crore is allocated for Dhrangadhra.
- These overbridges will improve traffic management, reducing congestion and ensuring smoother transportation.
2. Outgrowth Area Development for Emerging Towns
✅ ₹15.72 crore has been set aside for infrastructure development in outgrowth areas.
✅ This includes ₹4.49 crore for sewerage, CC roads, water lines, and street lighting in Halvad.
✅ ₹72.69 lakh for street lighting in Gandevi, and ₹1.90 crore for Dharampur.
✅ ₹4.62 crore will fund a railway underbridge project in Dwarka Municipality.
3. Strengthening Water Supply Networks
- A substantial amount of ₹112.53 crore is dedicated to water supply schemes in Khambhat and Dahod.
- ₹66.11 crore will be used to construct a new water supply network in Khambhat.
- ₹56.42 crore will fund the Pata Dungri Dam pipeline project in Dahod, ensuring a consistent water supply.
4. Beautification of Lakes and Cities
✅ ₹26.35 crore has been approved for city and lake beautification projects.
✅ ₹13.50 crore will enhance the key roads in Sanand Municipality.
✅ ₹6.42 crore for Viramgam Municipality lake beautification.
✅ ₹6.43 crore for Ghogha Village Lake under Bhavnagar Urban Development Authority.
5. Expansion of Stormwater Drainage Systems
- ₹99.89 crore has been allocated to Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation for stormwater drainage projects.
- ₹16.86 crore will support drainage works in Mandvi-Kutch Municipality.
- ₹1.64 crore is approved for Mundra-Barai Municipality.
6. Development of Roads under Mukhyamantri Shaheri Sadak Yojana
- ₹15.29 crore has been sanctioned for urban road construction.
- Specific allocations include: ₹99.52 lakh for Bardoli ₹1.02 crore for Valsad ₹3.67 crore for Babra Municipality ₹7.78 crore for Rajkot Urban Development Authority
7. Green Initiatives: Gardens and Smart Libraries
- ₹40 crore has been granted to 25 municipalities for the development of gardens, promoting environmental preservation and recreational spaces.
- ₹39 crore is allocated to 13 municipalities for library construction, encouraging education and reading habits.
- ₹1.50 crore per municipality has been sanctioned for 22 smart libraries.
8. Major Development Projects in Vadodara Municipal Corporation
- ₹104 crore has been approved for Vadodara’s urban transformation.
- Key projects include:
- ₹40 crore for modernization of the Lal Court building.
- ₹12 crore for a new foot overbridge near Kamatibag.
- ₹10 crore for renovation of Gandhinagar Gruh.
- ₹20 crore for development of Nagar Gruh at Sama.
- ₹10 crore for a walking bridge between Kamnath Temple and Kamatibag.
